Belly Dance Performance Review... REFLECTION presented by the Hawaii Belly Dance Convention

Annually the Hawaii Belly Dance Convention produces a multiple day event featuring gala shows, seminars, Middle Eastern Marketplace, After Party and REFLECTION a belly dancers first ever performance review!

Reflection, an intimate session of performances and commentary, an opportunity for professional feedback from Hawaii Belly Dance Convention’s visiting headlining instructors. Dancers participate in a question and answer session and get feedback on their own performances. The evening is open to the public.

Honolulu Museum of Art Doris Duke Theatre for an intimate night of performances and commentary.

10 pre-selected performers will dance before a panel of world-renown performers. Reviews will be structured to guide the commentary and ensure all feedback is positive and constructive. Through written notes and a moderated verbal discussion, the panel will provide valuable feedback to help performers fine tune their piece for future audiences. 2016 panel included : Mira Betz, Petite Jamilla, and Frank Farinaro

The event will starts with a Q & A with all visiting instructors, followed with performances by dancers looking to get an opportunity to improve their dance by getting the feedback of top professionals!

Reflection Purpose and Mission-To help build a positive Belly Dance community and foster in person communication between community members.  As performers we have an obligation to our audience and as our dance scene continues to grow, our audiences will come to expect more from the belly dance scene as a whole. With the Performance Review opportunity, we can utilize our different skills and visions to build a stronger performance culture.
Process –Each performer will setup his or her act with all available costuming, props, music and anything else as necessary for performance. The performer will demonstrate the act in its entirety.Upon completing the performance, the HBDC panel will write notes for the performer. Sharing feedback on the performers act - visual presentation, musicality, technique and charisma just to name a few!
Audience –All members of the dance and art community are welcome to participate.  Be prepared to write/share.  We will provide you with index cards and pens. Please write down the highlights of their performance and notes to the performer
Visual Presentation-Costume, hair, makeup and how it relates to the dancers movement, music type, style
Musicality-The dancers comprehension of the music and how they choose to interpret it
Technique-The dancers level of control of their body and movement
Charisma-Connection with audience and the entertainment quality of the performance
